5 Answers to Frist's "Die Anyway" Embryo Argument
Senator Frist has declared that although "life begins at conception,"
he supports using our federal tax-dollars to destroy human life
for science experiments -- despite the fact that adult stem cell research
is producing scores of treatments and cures, while embryonic stem
cell research has produced zero (resulting in private investor dollar drop-out).

Here's a quick primer on how to answer the seductive
argument that the "left-over" human embryos in fertility
clinics are going to "die anyway."

HOW TO ANSWER THE "DIE ANYWAY" ARGUMENT

Senator Frist and others argue that even though human embryos
created with egg and sperm in fertility clinics are human lives, we
should use our federal tax-dollars to destroy them for experiments.

How do I answer this seductive argument?

1. If the federal government, because of our Declaration of Independence
and other founding documents, is not going to protect life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness, who will?

2. There is no federal law stopping the private funding of destructive
human embryo research, so why is Big Biotech asking us to foot the bill
for their unethical experiments?

3. If we adopt a policy to fund the destruction of human lives
who are going to "die anyway," should we also take vital organs from
death row inmates and hospice patients? After all, they're going to
"die anyway," right?

4. No civilized society should sanction and pay for the destruction of the
weak, even for the possible benefit of others. The ends do not justify the
means.

5. A civilized nation recognizes that every human being at every stage of
life has intrinsic value. We are made to love and be loved, not to use and
be used.
